{Headband} | Tutorial

I'm so excited to share this tutorial with you today! My wonderful friend Allie taught me how to make this simple handband and today I want to share with you!

{Supplies}|

• A piece of fabric or ribbon, about 18 inches long
• A piece of velvet, also 18 inches long (velvet ribbon works best, no fraying edges to fight with!) This is optional, but helps prevent the headband from sliding.
• Elastic, about 4 inches (depends on the size of your head)
• Fabric glue
• Needle
• Thread

{Step 1}| Begin by cutting your fabric strips/ribbon and elastic. This is a great project for all of those fabric scraps you may have laying around. If you are cutting fabric, you can determine the width of your headband. I was going for the wide handband look, so I cut a strip about 5 inches wide, leaving some room to fold the edges under.

{Step 2}| If you are using a piece of ribbon, you can skip this step because you'll already have clean edges. If you have cut a piece of fabric, take the edges and fold them under to create a clean edge. I just used fabric glue to secure it in place, but you can also sew it.

{Step 3}| Sew the strip of velvet on the underside of the fabric/ribbon. I didn't do this because headbands don't really slip off of my head, maybe I have a funny shaped head??

{Step 4}| Take the strip of elastic and place it about half an inch on the end of the fabric/ribbon strip. Fold the ends of the fabric over the elastic and sew. I sewed it several times since there will be some tension on the elastic. I wanted to make sure it wouldn't come undone. Using a sewing machine would be much quicker, though.

By folding over the ends, it gives a tapered look to it leaving the top part wider.

{Step 5}| Repeat this with the other side of the headband. (Make sure not to twist the elastic). Viola! You have a headband.
